And leaving them, He
went again. And kneeling down, He
prayed the third time, saying the selfsame word: "Father, if Thou wilt, remove
this chalice from
Me; but yet not My will, but Thine be done."
And being in an agony,
He prayed the longer, with a strong cry and tears. And His sweat became as
drops of blood, trickling down upon the ground. And there appeared to Him an
angel from Heaven,
strengthening Him.
And when He rose up
from prayer, and was come the third time to His disciples, He found them
sleeping for sorrow. And He said to them: "Sleep ye now, and take your rest."

Jesus' Interior Prayer and Lamentation
The Lord hath made a vintage of Me, as He spoke in the day of His fierce anger.
I am poured out
like water, and all My bones are scattered. My heart is become like wax melting
in the midst of My
bowels. For My life is wasted with grief, and My years in sighs. My strength is
weakened and My
bones are disturbed.
Behold,
O Lord, for I
am in distress, and My bowels are troubled. My heart is turned within Me, for
I am full of bitterness. Rebuke Me not, O Lord, in Thy indignation, nor chastise
Me in Thy wrath.
For Thy arrows are fastened in Me, and Thy hand hath been strong upon Me. I am
taken away like the
shadow when it declineth. My knees are weakened through fasting, and My flesh is
changed for oil.
They are multiplied above the hairs of My head, who hate Me without cause. My
enemies are grown
strong, who have wrongfully persecuted Me. Then did I pay that which I took not
away.12 They have
heard that I sigh, and there is none to comfort Me. All My enemies have heard of
My evil, and they
have rejoiced that Thou hast

of what He had not
taken away, by suffering the punishment due to our sins, and so repairing the
