down, they wrapped it
up in the fine linen cloth with the spices, as
the manner of the Jews is to bury. And the Sabbath drew on.
Now there was in the
place where He was crucified, a garden [containing Joseph's] own new
sepulcher which he had hewed out of a rock, and wherein no man had ever yet been
laid. There,
therefore, because of the parasceve of the Jews, they laid Jesus, because the
sepulcher was nigh at
hand. And [they] rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulcher, and went
[their] way.
And there was there
Mary Magdalen, and the other Mary sitting over against the sepulcher, [who]
beheld the sepulcher and how His body was laid. And returning, they prepared
spices and ointments.
And on the Sabbath day they rested, according to the commandment.
And the next day, which
followed the day of preparation, 23 the chief priests and the Pharisees
came together to Pilate, saying, "Sir, we have remembered that that seducer,
while He was yet
alive, said, After three days I will rise again: Command therefore the sepulcher
to be guarded
until the third day, lest perhaps His disciples come and steal Him away, and say
to the people: 'He
is risen from the dead; and the last error shall be worse than the first."
Pilate saith to them:
"You have a guard. Go, guard it as you know." And they, departing, made the
sepulcher sure, sealing
the stone and setting guards.

And I will pour out
upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of
grace and of prayers, and they shall look upon Me, whom they have pierced: and
they shall mourn for
him as one mourneth for an only son, and they shall grieve over him, as the
manner is to grieve for
the death of the firstborn.
Zacharias 12:10
23 The day of
preparation: The eve of the Sabbath; so called, because on that day they
prepared
all things necessary, not being allowed so much as to dress their meat on the
Sabbath day.
