Fourth Sorrowful Mystery
The Carrying of the Cross
They are multiplied
above the hairs of My head, who hate Me without cause. My enemies are grown
strong who have wrongfully persecuted Me: then did I pay that which I took not
away.
(Psalm 68:5)
And after they had mocked Him, they took off the purple from Him, and put His
own garments on Him,
and they led Him out to crucify Him.
And they came to the place that is called Golgotha, which is the place of Calvary.
For unto this are you
called: because Christ also suffered for
us, leaving you an example that you should follow His steps.
(Mark 15:20; Matthew 27:33; 1 Peter 2:21)
Mercifully pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that
through our
voluntary mortifications we may avoid sin, and may rather suffer in this life
than be condemned to
punishment in eternity. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
