the sword destroyeth,
and at home there is death alike. Therefore do
I weep, and My eyes run down with water.
Behold,
O Lord, My
affliction, because the enemy is lifted up. See, O Lord, and consider, for I am
become vile and wasted with sorrow all the day long. My eyes have failed with
weeping, My bowels are
troubled, My liver is poured out upon the earth.
My days have declined
like a shadow, and I am withered like grass. There is no health in My flesh,
because of Thy wrath. There is no peace for My bones, because of My sins. For My
iniquities are
gone over My head, and as a heavy burden are become heavy upon Me. I am become
miserable, and am
bowed down even to the end. I walked sorrowful all the day long.
Hear, I pray you, all
ye people, and see My sorrow. O all ye that pass by the way, attend, and see
if there be any sorrow like to My
sorrow. My heart hath expected reproach and misery. And I looked
for one that would grieve together with Me, but there was none: and for one that
would comfort
Me, and I found none.
O My people, what have
I done to thee, or wherein have I afflicted thee? Answer Me. Because I led
thee out of the land of Egypt and through the desert forty years, and fed thee
with manna, and
brought thee into a land exceeding good, thou hast prepared a Cross for thy
Savior.
